Why Upgrade to LED Headlights?
Halogen 35W/35W bulbs on older motorcycles produce dim yellow light (under 800 lumens), making night riding dangerous on unlit Indian highways. Modern plug-and-play LED bulbs deliver over 3,000 lumens while consuming less power (20W-30W).
AC vs DC Headlight Wiring: Critical Difference!
Older commuter bikes (Splendor, Passion, Discover) power headlights directly from the magneto alternator on Alternating Current (AC), causing light flicker at idle RPM. LED bulbs require stable Direct Current (DC) from the battery.
How to Convert AC Headlight to DC Wiring:
- Disconnect the yellow headlight power wire coming from the stator coil handle switch connector.
- Tap a fused wire from a switched DC source (like the rear brake light switch or ignition lock key wire).
- Route DC power into the headlight switch input terminal.
Installing a Heavy-Duty Relay Harness
High-intensity auxiliary LED projectors (like 60W spot lights) draw high current that can melt factory handlebar switches. Always install a 4-pin 12V 40A relay harness with an inline 10A fuse.
