1.Heat and penetrating oil first
On aluminium heads, soak the fastener and warm the area before you load the puller. Jumping straight to max torque rounds the remaining thread.
2.Keep the puller square
The 1/4" drive must sit in line with the bolt. Side load cracks the extractor or the boss. Support the head so it cannot twist.
3.Stop if it walks
If the extractor starts to cam out, back off and recut or drill. Forcing it through turns a repairable hole into a helicoil job.
